Updates and New App!

Book of Mormon Trivia version 1.2 has been released. This was a bug fix build to address app crashes that some users have experienced. There was an issue with the code we were using to provide the sound effects. It has turned out that this was less trivial to fix than we thought, so as much as we loved them, we’ve disabled them for now. This should make for a much more stable experience for everyone while we work to fix it.

In the mean time, we’ve submitted our next app for approval! We’ll announce the full details once it has been approved but for now we’ll just say that this one relates more to our Modern Day…

1s and 0s version 1.0 is Approved!

Stickybuzz Software presents our second iPhone application titled “1s and 0s”. The BEST binary clock to hit the app store! Use it to polish your binary skills, or just pretend to know how to read it so you can impress your friends. At the low price of $0.99 this isn’t an app that’s going to change your life, but it’s guaranteed to help your geek cred!

Features:
- 7 digit styles to choose from, including Hal 9000 and ten sided dice
- “Cheat Mode” with guide bars to help correlate the binary with base 10 equivalents
- “Hints Mode” that shows the base 10 equivalent for a given binary group when tapped
- Optional base 10 clock
- Retro teletype design

Book of Mormon Trivia version 1.1 Is Approved!

It’s been a long winding road, but our first update to Book of Mormon trivia has finally been approved! We packed a lot into this update:

  • Toggle to turn off the timer
  • Increased the time limits for each quiz to be around 9 seconds per question
  • Increased the volume of the sound effects
  • Button art added
  • Higher res background and plates picture
  • Added version number and larger link to about us page
  • Fixed a bug that would cause the “Time’s up” message to fire while not taking a quiz
  • Added a menu button at the top right during the quiz
  • Answers to some questions have been corrected
  • Fixed the bug that caused the “get results” page to not work for some users by changing to a paginated format instead of the scrolling

We have received the approval notification, and Apple is updating their servers now. If you don’t see the update yet, it should arrive within a few hours.

Thanks for all your patience!

Our first App Store Rejection

Well the v1.1 update to our Book of Mormon Trivia game for iPhone has been rejected. I turns out we aren’t alone in this either, Apple has had a change of policy that has affected a lot of users in a similar way. They have some sort of analyzer tool they are using now to search for private API calls (sorry for the developer speak) and it’s being a lot more strict than before which has caused a lot of people’s apps to get rejected.

We’ll be modifying our code and submitting again, but it looks like it will be a couple more weeks before the next version gets released because of this.

[EDIT: It's finally approved! Click here for details]

Binary Seminary and Android

While we wait (and wait) for Apple to approveĀ  BoM Trivia v1.1, we haven’t been resting on our laurels! Our second iPhone application has been submitted for approval, and it’s one that probably has LESS market appeal than our first one. It’s a binary clock! Yes, you heard that right. I wrote this on a whim last Saturday, just because I’m a geek and I felt like it. I don’t expect it to change the world, but I’m proud of it!

Meanwhile, work has begun on our next LDS app for iPhone. I can’t announce the details yet, but it’s going to be a FREE Book of Mormon Seminary related app, and we’re currently waiting to hear back from Intellectual Reserve about our copyright use request.

And finally, probably the biggest news of the week is that we are now officially working toward Android OS as a supported platform! If you’ve not heard of Android, it’s an operating system for cell phones, and will let us push our family friendly apps to more people than just the iPhone alone would allow us. There’s even less Mormon apps for Android than there are for iPhone and we want to change that! We plan on releasing all our apps (or as many as we can) for both iPhone and Android in the future. We’ll keep you updated on our Android efforts as they come.

Book of Mormon Trivia Update Submitted

Book of Mormon Trivia version 1.1 for iPhone has been submitted to Apple for review. We wanted to get it out much sooner, but we ran into a bug that we had to resolve with Apple tech support first.

New in version 1.1:
- Increased the time limits for each quiz to be around 9 seconds per question
- Increased the volume of the sound effects
- Button art added
- Higher res background and plates picture
- Added version number and larger link to about us page
- Fixed a bug that would cause the “Time’s up” message to fire while not taking a quiz
- Added a menu button at the top right during the quiz
- Answers to some questions have been corrected
- Temporarily removed the “get results” page. The page has been not working properly for some users so we turned it off for now to give us time to fix and test. We WILL bring it back though, as soon as we can!

This will be available as soon as Apple approves the update!

Book of Mormon Trivia is LIVE!

It was a long two weeks of nail biting and anticipation, but the day has finally arrived! The first Book of Mormon trivia game for iPhone is available for sale and you can download it here:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=336615801&mt=8

There are over 200 questions at launch, and more are on the way. We already have new features planned for the next release, and we welcome any feedback!

Book of Mormon Trivia is in!

It’s official! The first Book of Mormon trivia app for iPhone has been submitted to the app store! The approval process takes approximately two weeks, so if all goes well then it should be available sometime around the beginning of November. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Meanwhile, work has started on our next TWO applications and I expect at least one of them to be ready to go in around the time that the trivia app goes live. I can’t yet reveal details, but one of them is targeted toward LDS Seminary students and the other is for Primary aged kids. Stay tuned!

Let the Buzz begin!

Welcome to Sticky Buzz Software! We’re still working out the kinks, finding the flowers, and building our honeycomb, so stick around and…ok, we’ll stop with the bee jokes.

My name is Orien, but my friends call be Big-O. I’m the co-founder and lead developer of Sticky Buzz, and I’m very excited about the things we’ve got planed for you! In addition to my love of software, I’m also a big fan of Apple products, and as soon as the iPhone developer program opened up I knew that I wanted to get involved. In fact, it makes me flash back to the early 90’s when the internet was just starting to emerge.

In 1993 I was 16, and I got to see the world wide web for the first time. It was new, exciting, and full of so much potential that I immediately knew that I wanted to learn how to make web pages of my own. I did just that, and without the help of Google (which didn’t exist) and without the help of any books (I couldn’t afford them) I figured out how the web worked and started writing my own web code. Today I’m a professional web developer, and I haven’t lost my passion for new technologies.

Perhaps that’s why I was so excited by the emergence of the iPhone app store. It’s a very similar situation. We have a new and exciting frontier, developers are still finding new and interesting ways to make use of the device, and I knew from day one that I wanted to get in on that.

Another significant thing happened to me when I was 16. It was then that I first became a Christian, and not too long after that that I joined the LDS church, and that has been the largest determining factor in who I am ever since. When I got my own iPod Touch and started browsing for applications, it wasn’t long before I was searching for Mormon and Christian apps to install, and although there are some very good ones out there, there’s not a lot of them, especially for LDS folks, and most of the ones I found were over priced.

So that became the driving force behind the creation of Sticky Buzz Software. Not all of our apps are going to be for Mormons, or even religious at all, but I promise that everything we make will be kid safe and family friendly.

We’re starting out with an app that I’m very excited about, and is one that I wanted to find when I first searched the app store, and that is Book of Mormon Trivia! We will have at least 200 trivia questions at launch, and we’re going to create a page on this web site for all of you to submit your own quiz questions so we can grow the question pool even further! The code is complete on the app and we’re just adding polish and content. Our goal is to have it in the app store for sale by the end of the month, at a price point of 99 cents.

Trust me when I say that we have a LOT more planned after that! We have many more app ideas than we have time to code, and though I can’t share any of them with you yet, I’m very excited about what we have in store and I think there will be a little something for everyone.

So stick around (stick, get it?) and check back on this blog for company news, app announcements, and maybe even some contests!

Thanks for stopping by.
